The Strange Book of Western Hunan: The Ghost Bride's Wedding

In the Xiangxi region during the Republican era, deep in the mountains among Miao villages, ghost marriages have become a scourge.

At midnight on every full moon, a red-silk ghost sedan glides along without a breeze, carried by corpses as it slips silently into the village.

There is no groom inside, only heavy breathing. The chosen young woman gets a sedan-shaped mark between her brows. Within three days, corpse spots appear on her face, leaving her half human and half ghost.

The ghostly husband steals bodies through the sedan, abducting the living to wed them on the road to the underworld. Once inside the sedan, a woman is doomed to be his corpse-bride for eternity.

Hua Xiangrong comes from a family that has carried ghost sedans for generations. Her father and brothers all died because of their evil curse.

Defying her ancestors' rules, she takes up the sedan pole and stands alone against the ghost sedans, breaks the underworld marriage contracts, ventures down the road to the underworld, and storms the wedding hall.

When corpses carry the sedan, she dares to stop them. When the ghostly husband comes for lives, she dares to strike him down. When corpse-brides gather, she dares to save them.

One ghost sedan after another goes up in flames, and one underworld marriage contract after another is severed.

As a woman, she subdues the dark forces of Xiangxi and protects brides everywhere.
