In the 1990s, in Xuanzhou County, Dong'ou City, the protagonist starts out with an old UT Xiaolingtong handset, putting down roots in the countryside as he tackles PHS base stations and mobile phone components. From dismantling and copying devices to independent research and development, he spends decades honing his technical expertise, gradually closing the gaps in China's communications industry, until in 2060 he establishes Huaren, a homegrown phone brand for the Chinese people.
