[Comedy + ensemble cast + fourth-wall players + rules-based puzzles + turning the tables on the players]
Earth becomes a hyper-realistic full-dive online game called Earth Online. Billions of players arrive, convinced they are the chosen ones.
Chen Lang transmigrates into a down-and-out NPC in a newbie fishing village and awakens a pair of golden fingers: [NPC Privileges]: Assign quests, set rewards, and inspect player status. Players think they're grinding quests, but in reality they're working for me. [Ocean Sight]: Spend player Faith to see hidden drop rates and rule bugs in the ocean of rules.
The Ocean of Rules is one of Earth Online's seven deadly dungeons. You mustn't look back when the tide goes out; red shells count down; wounds bloom when the moon rises... The players are terrified, but Chen Lang treats the restricted zone like his vegetable garden.
The "rusty harpoon" he casually picked up becomes a silencing tool in a cyberpunk dungeon. The "Ah Lang's Approval" title he hands out in bulk turns out to stack hidden attributes. The four eccentric players he backs become the server's universally acclaimed "Godfather's Personal Guard."
The players can't get enough: "Brother Lang's quest rewards are amazing!" Chen Lang watches his quest points soar. "These suckers... are so cute."
Then the Cataclysm update arrives. The Old Gods awaken, and the world's rules collapse. Chen Lang gathers the divine artifacts from all seven dungeons and slays a god amid billions of players spamming, "Godfather, save me!"
In a later interview, Chen Lang humbly says, "I'm just an ordinary fishing village NPC." The whole server replies, "Put down that scythe before you say that!"
