Growing Up: The Young Master of the Qian Family

Question: What's it like to have the richest man in the country for a dad? Qian Shuli (Little Li): Thanks for the invite. I'm at home, and I just left the dinner table. My dad is worth tens of billions, but in front of my mom, all he's worth is the rent for a spot on the sofa. My dad, Qian Yukun, is a business tycoon, known outside the home as the fearsome “Money Tiger.” My mom, Pei Yin, is a music professor, known at home as the “Fairy Pei” who makes him kneel on a washboard. It was all because my mom couldn't stand the smell of money on him, so she kicked him right out of the house! Then my dad went and bought a luxury apartment in the city center, claiming it was because “distance makes the heart grow fonder.” Really, he was afraid my mom might actually leave him. My brother, Qian Sanyi, the bona fide genius, and I live with my mom. Dad drops by to stay now and then, and every time he pretends to be drunk to win sympathy. Mom: “Drinking again?” Dad (immediately cowed): “Just one sip! Really, just one!” Dad (pulling out a present): “Honey, I bought you this designer dress.” Mom (coldly): “Go drink some honey water.” Dad (to me): “Son, see how much your mom cares about me!” Me: “...” At 188 centimeters tall, even I can't prop up this family's crumbling act. A heartwarming (and ridiculous) daily life about the richest man in the country trying to win back his wife's favor every day, while my brother and I watch the drama unfold from the sidelines. [Mini-scene] Qian Yukun: “My wife is an artist. She thinks I'm uncultured, and I accept that. But I have plenty of money, so I can buy her the finest Steinway!” Pei Yin: “You're sleeping in the study tonight. So is that Steinway.” Qian Shuli & Qian Sanyi: Crunch, crunch (the sound of eating snacks while watching the show).
