“I saw him die in a dream with my own eyes. The next day, he vanished from the world without a trace.”
In 2045, the dream system OneirOS sweeps the globe, and humanity becomes addicted to controllable dreams. But a string of bizarre incidents shatters the peace: anyone who “dies” in a dream is erased from reality too, as if they had never existed.
I'm a neural engineer, and I start investigating the truth. I discover that every victim had entered a hidden layer of dreams. Even stranger, before they died, they had all seen “another me.”
As the investigation deepens, I gradually lose my grip on reality. My memories become jumbled, time keeps resetting, and I can't even be sure whether “I'm still alive.”
Until, at last, I enter the deepest reaches of the dream
and see the “being” controlling it all.
