Crossing to Immortality: Peril

(Tapping the tabletop lightly with a fingertip, he ponders for a moment.)

That is an interesting way to put the question, fellow Daoist. If I truly had to start over...

Hmm, I would call it "Immortal Crossing".

(Rising slowly, he walks over to the window.) Why? The word “mortal” is blunt, laying bare the weakness of one's foundations. But “immortal crossing” carries deeper meaning. Those who ferry others ferry themselves; those who ferry themselves are ferried by Heaven. The word “crossing” describes both the struggle to survive in the bitter sea of cultivation, for someone with no foundation or backing, and the journey through countless trials to reach the other shore. Compared to “mortal,” it conveys a stronger sense of struggle in motion.

(Turning around, a smile in his eyes.) If we examine it closely, only "Immortal Crossing" truly suits the man in our story: the one who advances cautiously, meditating on the edge of a blade. What do you think, my friend?

(He suddenly remembers something and adds.) As for the protagonist's name... let us keep it plain. We shall call him Li Feiyu.

The word “crossing” runs through the entire story: crossing oneself is a struggle, crossing others creates karmic ties, and crossing the world is the Great Dao. An utterly ordinary transmigrator, with no heaven-defying talent and no System at his side, relies only on his bone-deep caution and an unquenchable sense of right and wrong. He begins in a coffin in a mass grave and goes on to rule Heaven and Earth, reigning supreme over all worlds.
