She took Zijuan and Xueyan and slipped out of the Jia family estate through a side gate. Along the way, they rescued a young opera performer who was being sold, joined a woman merchant's fleet, and fled all the way to Yangzhou.
They opened an embroidery workshop, started a school for girls, and grew medicinal herbs. They took in every woman with nowhere else to go.
The year the Jia family was confiscated, the girls' estate became a refuge for the sisters.
When Daiyu died, she had no tears to repay. She left behind a book and a group of survivors.
This time, they had lives of their own.
