Gu Yan entered an infinite world called “Threshold Theater” three months ago.
He met his current instance partner in the first scenario. His name is Luo Xing.
They weren't close at first. They happened to be the only two survivors of their first scenario, so they teamed up.
Luo Xing has a sharp tongue and a bad temper, but he's incredibly capable and very obedient. For example:
When Gu Yan planned an escape route, Luo Xing nitpicked it while memorizing every word.
When Gu Yan casually mentioned wanting something, it showed up in his backpack the next day.
In a game where everyone is fighting for survival, they've seen plenty of temporary teammates stab each other in the back. Neither of them brought up ending their partnership, and just like that, three months went by.
Then, after they argued and went their separate ways, Gu Yan triggered an instance that required two players to clear.
Gu Yan stared at the blood-red countdown. Ten seconds remained.
Nine seconds.
Eight seconds
A figure suddenly crashed into the glowing entrance and rolled across the ground.
Luo Xing scrambled to his feet, covered in dust, and glared at Gu Yan, his eyes still red.
“Gu Yan, are you fucking stupid? Who told you to enter an instance alone?”
“I haven't finished arguing with you. You don't get to die.”
He pulled a worn contract from inside his clothes and shoved it into Gu Yan's hands.
It was a permanent-binding agreement he'd secretly signed with the System while he was away.
Along with the agreement was a little note covered in crooked handwriting:
“We can argue all we want. That doesn't mean I don't want to make up with you.”
