(Mistaken identity: wrong husband + following the army + size difference + contrast couple + beloved by all, sharing gossip + everyday family life)
Sleepy, pampered beauty vs. stern military officer who dotes on his wife
Lin Qiuning is just like her name suggests: her stepmother’s “smothering her with praise” left her both delicate and lazy.
When she and her stepsister Zheng Jingyun came of age and their marriages were being arranged, Grandpa Lin brought out betrothal tokens from an old comrade and sent the two sisters to the Northwest Military District to marry his comrade’s two grandsons.
Lin Qiuning had no idea that her stepsister Zheng Jingyun had been reborn.
Her stepsister got first pick, choosing the younger brother, Huo Heng, who would live a long life and become a world-renowned scientist. She tricked Lin Qiuning into mistaking him for his older brother, Huo Ting, who had died young in the line of duty.
Huo Ting didn’t approve of blind marriage arrangements. He planned to meet her, explain things, and send her home. He never expected that one extra glance at her in the train station would make her latch onto him.
She was even more spoiled, lazy, and clingy than he’d imagined. She wouldn’t drink water if it was too hot, wouldn’t walk when she was tired, and expected him to spend money on her and let her sleep in his bed.
He kept grumbling about his sweet, fragrant wife while feeling sour every day, like he’d swallowed a whole bottle of vinegar, watching the pack of young soldiers at the base constantly curry favor with her.
But on the day he filed his marriage application, a letter arrived from his grandfather in the capital, asking how things were going with his betrothed, Jingyun.
Lin Qiuning panicked: “Oh no, I married the wrong man! I’ve been using my fiancée status to make Huo Ting wait on me and spend money on me. Um... can we switch back?”
Huo Ting: “Absolutely not!”
Everyone in the compound said that the older sister, Zheng Jingyun, was a hardworking, thrifty wife who knew how to run a household, while the younger sister, Lin Qiuning, was a pretty but spendthrift good-for-nothing.
But a year later, Huo Heng and Zheng Jingyun were fighting over a divorce, while Lin Qiuning had triplets and became a millionaire in the 1980s.
That same year, a letter from home brought someone back to the capital for a family visit
Very nice, but too short. I hope there will be a sequel.
It's a pretty good short article. Make a note to read this book.
Apart from the abrupt ending, the writing was quite good.
Looks great, looking forward to updates
