Ji Yunfeng was the young general of Qifeng Mingyue. At the emperor’s sixty-fifth birthday banquet, he fell in love at first sight with Su Xia, the neglected seventh prince.

The old emperor was near death. To secure the throne, Su Xia pretended to agree to be with Ji Yunfeng, though in truth he was only using him.

Ji Yunfeng used his military achievements to secure Su Xia’s hold on the throne.

Su Xia kept putting off Ji Yunfeng’s requests for an official title.

First, he was denied the position of empress. Then a low-ranking consort, and finally, even that of a palace attendant.

Heartbroken, Ji Yunfeng returned to the battlefield and was killed by a hidden arrow as the two armies clashed.

Su Xia was certain that An Qi would fail.

When he received the news of Ji Yunfeng’s death, he refused to believe it. After seeing Ji Yunfeng’s remains, he gave him a lavish burial, then stole the body back on the way and preserved it on an ice bed.
