My new work is out! Feel free to read it on Tomato Novel. I hope you enjoy it. Your support motivates me to write, and I'll do my best to tell every story well! Keeping the blade hidden in a broom, with a sword heart clear and bright: the author's review of The Sweeper of Hidden Sword Peak
The Sweeper of Hidden Sword Peak takes the ten years of patient restraint of Li Fan, a menial sweeper, and uses it to tear a striking, thought-provoking crack in the traditional framework of fantasy web novels. Rather than rushing to pile on the thrills of leveling up and defeating monsters, it wraps the core of an "invincible protagonist" story in the everyday life of a "sweeper monk," using the narrative wisdom of "hiding a sword in the ordinary." Its climactic scene of "ten thousand swords paying homage" ultimately asks profound questions about both the Sword Dao and human nature.
What makes Li Fan such a compelling character is his unconventional portrayal. He is neither a revenge-seeker who plays the pig to eat the tiger in the traditional sense, nor an ambitious man who devotes himself to cultivation in pursuit of ascension. He sweeps because "if I don't clear away the fallen leaves today, there'll be even more tomorrow." He steps in because "I don't want to see a child being bullied." This almost instinctive kindness and composure strip his "invincibility" of any worldly ambition, turning it instead into a gentle rebellion against the rules of society. When Ye Jingchen boasts of being at the ninth Qi Refining layer, and Zhao Wuji presses him with the might of a Golden Core, Li Fan remains honest and unruffled: "Maybe around the second layer." This silence, this refusal to explain, is more powerful than any display. He isn't hiding his strength; he is protecting something far more precious: reverence for the sword and purity of the Dao.
And the image of the "sword" in the novel is given a philosophical significance that goes beyond martial might.
