She met the fifteen-year-old Tsangyang Gyatso—not yet enthroned, not yet under house arrest, but still able to write poems for his beloved shepherdess with a piece of charcoal in the middle of the night. She brought documents from three hundred years later and knew that she was standing at the scene where those swan songs were born.
