Aphales will do anything for money. He seduces Vitika, gets caught, and dies.
Then he is reborn. Since his affair hasn't been exposed yet and he and Vitika are still on decent terms, he decides to fake his death, figuring it will make it easier to play the victim and survive.
But instead of being dragged through the flames of a breakup, he gets a wanted poster.
He runs away.
But once he escapes the estate, he realizes that a poor painter in the seventeenth century has nowhere to go.
One day, a noblewoman veiled in black hires him for a handsome sum to paint a full-length portrait of her.
When she lifts her veil, he sees eyes like rubies. “Teacher, I've found you.”
Beneath her skirts, a pair of men's leather shoes comes into view.
