One day, every reflective surface in the country showed the same person.
Television screens, car windows, shopfronts, reflections in puddles… Wherever a person’s image could appear, he materialized in the stillness.
Then people discovered, to their horror, that another version of themselves was standing in their home mirrors.
They stared expressionlessly out from the glass, while their movements slowly began to fall out of sync.
In that moment, the mirror ghosts, dormant for years, fully revived.
Some people smashed their mirrors, only to see even more versions of themselves in the shards.
Some fled their homes, only to find the entire city surrounded by countless reflective surfaces.
Some fell to their knees and cried out, only to hear their own laughter coming from the mirror.
And the source of all this calamity, the man standing beyond billions of mirrors, simply gazed calmly at everyone and asked:
“What makes you think the world outside the mirror is the real one?”
