"Half a Spring Breeze" tells the love story of Shen Mingyue and Xu Qingfeng that spans life and death. In the autumn of 1936, 16-year-old Shen Mingyue met Xu Qingfeng at a debate at Yenching University, and he handed her a note: "Only light things fly far." The two became acquainted through books, and they walked and corresponded by the Weiming Lake. He gave her a white porcelain wine glass, "half a cup to send the spring breeze." When Peiping fell in 1937, Xu Qingfeng stood in the rain all night before moving south. He stuffed the words "The breeze comes slowly, and the bright moon shines on me" into the crack of the door. In the next seven years, classmate Lu Chunsheng relayed letters for the two of them. In 1944, Xu Qingfeng died in the Battle of Hengyang at the age of 26. Among his relics was a piece of shell skin engraved with "One inch of lovesickness, one inch of ashes - it's me." Lu Chunsheng hid the relics and spent thirty-eight years silently guarding Shen Mingyue. He sent tea and notes every New Year's Eve, but he wrote "I miss the master but I dare not say anything" and never sent it. Shen Mingyue waited for fifty-four years and said "I received it" before she died. Daughter Gu Nian finally buried the remains under the ginkgo tree in the Western Mountains, knowing that the spring breeze never stopped.
