This novel tells the story of campus love and friendship in the late 1980s. The protagonist Chen Xin is a boy who is talented but neglects discipline and often causes trouble on campus.
Classmate Zhao Ruxue is a girl from a mountain village. She is smart and studious, and is a top student. By chance, Chen Xin took a close look at Zhao Ruxue and was moved by her. From then on, a tortuous love story began.
It was the early stage of reform and opening up, when everything was in ruins and there was a huge difference between urban and rural areas. This reality dominated people's outlook on life, especially young people's outlook on love. Urban household registration and rural household registration are a specific manifestation. People with urban registered permanent residence are always superior to others, and they always look down on rural registered residents. Because of this relationship, I don't know how much love has been broken up. How many rural girls would rather marry boys with urban hukou who they don't like or have bad records for a rural hukou. Zhao Ruxue is not an exception in this novel. However, marriage is not simply about giving and dedication. It requires both parties to know and love each other on the basis of equality and mutual willingness to create a beautiful life together. Marriage is not a game that can be paused or exited at any time. Although divorce is possible, how many can exit peacefully without going through a war?
