At the start of the War of Resistance, Wang Jinlei of the Eighth Route Army’s Independent Regiment has no guns, no cannons, and no funds.
Wang Jinlei is determined to save the country by working from within: If we don’t have guns or cannons, we’ll get them from the Japanese. He infiltrates enemy camps to swindle guns, cannons, money, and information.
His success leads his superiors to assign him to a long-term undercover mission. He digs deep into enemy territory, continuously sending funds and equipment to the Eighth Route Army.
He even earns the Japanese’ trust, eventually becoming the king of Shandong and turning the whole province into a base area that isn’t officially a base area for the resistance.
