Captive Heart: He's Mad, and She Understands

He died once. In prison, she personally fed him poisoned wine and watched him fall peacefully into her arms. When she opened her eyes again, she was back at the beginning of the story.

That man was still alive. He was cold, violent, and kept his distance from women, hiding half his disfigured face behind a bronze mask.

In her first life, she hated him, feared him, and wanted only to escape.

In her second life, she wanted to try to understand him.

She knew all his secrets. She knew why he had become this way. She knew what had happened in that great fire, that his mother had set it herself, and that he was living under someone else’s identity in this man-eating prince’s manor.

She knew he would go mad, become obsessive, and imprison her in the most deranged way possible.

But she would not run anymore.

She would stay by his side and melt his scorched heart, bit by bit.

[Little scene]

He stared at her, his gaze heavy. “Who are you?”

She smiled and said softly, “Your antidote, Your Highness.”

“What antidote?”

“The medicine that will cure your illness.”

He didn’t understand.

He didn’t understand why she wasn’t afraid of him, why she dared to look him in the face, or why she said his face was “handsome.”

He only knew that this woman was different from everyone else.

She wasn’t afraid of him.

She even dared to tell him to get lost, so he refused to budge.

He was mad, and she understood.

Perhaps this was fate.
