Looking Up from the Abyss

In the late 1990s, three women meet in Ward 6 of the obstetrics department at a Kyoto hospital. Shang Ying is a country girl who escaped a den of horrors; the aloof Lin Wanting fought back after being pressured into sex; and Han Shiling is a saleswoman at a brewery trapped in the tragedy of a lavender marriage. Their fates converge, and they become one another’s support as they struggle to thrive in the rushing currents of the times. Shang Ying uses her beauty to fight her way to the top of the real estate sales rankings. Lin Wanting exploits people’s weaknesses to climb steadily through political circles. Han Shiling, meanwhile, lives it up night after night in the world of wealth and glamour. But as the snowball of power and money grows ever larger, the women who once shared a hospital ward become partners in profit, and their alliance eventually turns into a desperate struggle for survival, where the strong prey on the weak... When the tides of the era recede, who will make it out unscathed?
