In dungeon after dungeon, Lin Shen modified the rules to outwit him, and gradually discovered that the "thriller game" was actually a "spiritual training ground" left by ancient civilizations, with the purpose of screening out new humans who can control fear. In the end, he has to face the "Old Dominators" who are trying to use the game to destroy reality.
