"Six Hundred Treaties Locking China - Chronicles of the Common People in the Late Qing Dynasty" is a chapter-length historical novel based on hundreds of unequal treaties in the seventy-two years of the late Qing Dynasty (1840-1912), with a total of one hundred chapters. The novel takes the century-old vicissitudes of three generations of the Zhang family, a thirteen-line tea merchant in Guangzhou, as the main line, and cuts through the multiple folk perspectives of "princes, generals, ministers, common people, and three religions and nine streams" to outline a panoramic view of late Qing society under the shadow of treaties.
