In the ninth year of Yongzheng's reign, Huizhou merchant Shen Wanfeng took over the imperial project and built a storm shelter for Dongting Lake's Rudder Island. He spent all his family property, his wife died in prison, and was eventually sentenced to "stand on the stage to atone." From then on, the fate of three generations of the Shen family was tightly tied to this stone platform.
Shen Derun grew up on the stone platform and was perfectly intertwined with the legend of Junshan Dragon Girl, who saved twelve ships in the storm; Shen Nianzu experienced the Opium War and the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom and turned the stone platform into a water refuge; Shen Chuanjia, Shen Jizong, Shen Shouzhuo, Shen Chenzhong... Eight generations, for 239 years, guarded a platform and also guarded the idea that "people have a place to go in times of crisis."
It was not until 1970 that the stone platform was demolished during the "Four Olds" movement. The last generation of Taiwanese watchers Shen Nianhu went to the depths of the lake.
This is a story about waiting. Keep a platform, a waterway, a family promise, and a belief that "someone will come to save you in times of crisis."
