Xiao Qing, a prince of a different surname, died in battle. His wife, Song Meihan, took her own life out of grief.

All they left behind was their five-year-old child, Xiao Yuanshan.

Dowager Empress Liu Jing took Xiao Yuanshan in and raised him by her side.

The Dowager Empress only doted on her grandson, Song Qingren.

The Emperor and Empress passed away.

With the court in turmoil, Liu Jing forced eight-year-old Xiao Yuanshan to become regent and take command of the Dark Night Corps.

Liu Jing ruled from behind the curtain, while Xiao Yuanshan led troops into battle.

During the Ankang era, the war was won, and peace reigned throughout the court and beyond.

Xiao Yuanshan died in a heavy snowfall outside Luoyang.
