Journey to the West: Eighty-One Tribulations Aren’t Enough, Add More!

[Journey to the West] [Reviving the Jie Sect] [Invincible Protagonist] Lu Xuan wakes from a deep sleep to find himself transmigrated into the Primordial World, where Master Tongtian takes him in as his last disciple.

He intends to defy fate and change the outcome of the Investiture of the Gods, but after ten thousand years in seclusion, he emerges to find that the Journey to the West tribulation has already begun!

Seeing his fellow Jie Sect disciples bound by the Investiture of the Gods, while Buddhism is about to prosper by trampling on the fruits of the East’s efforts, Lu Xuan gives a cold laugh. He decisively joins forces with the Jade Emperor and Nuwa, taking up the powerful post of Heavenly Court Judicial Deity!

You Buddhist monks think you can earn merit by putting the pilgrims through the Eighty-One Tribulations?

Dream on!

I’ll bind myself to the laws of the Great Dao, use the heavenly statutes as my foundation, and establish new laws for heaven and earth and the mortal realm. I’ll lead my senior brothers and sisters from the Jie Sect down to the lower world to set up tribulations, squeeze every last bit of merit out of the pilgrimage, and rebuild our bodies and our sect!

And so the journey west descends into madness.

Tang Sanzang weeps in despair: “Buddha, why are there more demons on this pilgrimage route than we can ever kill?” Zhu Bajie and Sha Monk are harshly sentenced under the heavenly statutes, struck by lightning and pierced by swords every day.

On Spirit Mountain, Tathagata breaks down in tears: “Forget the Journey to the West! I’ll personally deliver the scriptures to Great Tang, all right?”

Lu Xuan sits alone in the Heavenly Court’s divine hall, looking at the ten thousand Jie Sect immortals behind him, a third of whom have yet to regain their bodies. He sweeps his wide sleeve and declares, “For the prosperity of Buddhism, add another Eighty-One Tribulations for this deity!”
