Bai Zhi lived for eight hundred years, finally waiting for the tribulation that would let her ascend. But when a bolt of lightning struck, she didn’t end up in the Ninth Heaven. Instead, she found herself in a modern city. With spiritual energy scarce and her demonic powers sealed, the fox demon matriarch who once commanded the winds and rain was now an undocumented pauper with not a coin to her name. To fill her stomach, she used her supernatural abilities to open a “Metaphysical Services Office,” reading faces, hunting demons, adjusting feng shui, and taking care of clients’ bizarre troubles along the way. One day, a man exuding the regal aura of the Ziwei Emperor came to her door. “I’ll pay you double. Protect me.”
Bai Zhi looked up. That face was exactly like the young general she had failed to save eight hundred years ago.
