Lacquered Light Across the Dust

Lin Zhixia, a modern restorer of ancient lacquerware, is drawn by an antique lacquer hairpin left behind by her grandmother into a bond across time with Shen Qingci, the legitimate daughter of a lacquer-art family in the Jinghe Dynasty. They become “mirror counterparts” separated by a thousand years. One is trapped in the shadow of a restoration mistake, while the other is constrained by the ancestral rule that the craft may be passed down to sons, but never daughters. Through a resonance of consciousness awakened by the hairpin, they support and redeem each other.

Shen Qingci breaks through prejudice, dazzles the imperial household with her lacquer artistry, and uncovers the secrets of the Shen family. Lin Zhixia combines ancient methods with modern techniques and finds her way out of a personal low point. As the rifts between their eras widen, they discover that their bond stems from the obsession of Su Ningshuang, a lacquer master from a thousand years ago. Restoring the flow of time and passing down “Ningshuang lacquer” turn out to be the mission they were born to fulfill.

A shared life in lacquer art across time, and a journey of mutual growth and redemption: this story holds the secrets to preserving a thousand-year-old craft, as well as a gentle yet steadfast love and devotion.
