I'm looking for stories similar to "The Regent of Dayao". It's not mindless, it's thought-provoking. There's no System constantly chiming in with a golden finger, but it's still full of passion. The protagonist isn't invincible from the start, but grows along the way. There are both small-scale skirmishes and epic wars. No harem, just love and hate tangled up in painful longing.
