The Returning Wind Beacon

In the final years of the Great Sui Revival, in an abandoned pass in the northwest, a young saber smith is drawn into a tangled affair involving registry purges, lost household status, an old case concerning the frontier army, and a road severed through the mountains and rivers, all because of a black nail that would not yield to the furnace.

He is no child of destiny, and he has no desire to save the world from the start.

He just thinks: a broken saber can be mended, so someone should be able to rebuild a broken road, too. A pass shouldn’t simply be allowed to disappear.
