Eerie Revival: I Sing Peking Opera and Summon Spirits to Possess Me

[Spiritual qi revival + opera powers + bloodline awakening + ensemble battles]

Six months after spiritual qi revived, while everyone else awakened powers like lightning and fire, I awakened the “Performer’s Bloodline.” Sing as Guan Yu, and summon the Martial Sage to slay ghosts. Sing as Bao Zheng, and summon the incorruptible judge to solve cases. Sing as Yu Ji, and summon a beauty to beguile the enemy.

The audience below the stage aren’t human. They’re the ancestors dwelling in the spirits of the opera.

Shen Yan, 22, is a senior at Jinghua Academy of Drama. On the day of his graduation performance, he encountered the first Eerie of his life backstage: the person in the mirror turned around. It had a face with no features.

“Damn... How is this instance so ridiculously hard?”

Then he started singing opera.

“With strength enough to lift a mountain... my might outshines the world...”

A three-zhang-tall apparition of Xiang Yu took shape behind him, holding a painted halberd. One swing, and the Eerie was reduced to dust.

From that moment on, Shen Yan’s life changed completely. Old Zhou, the gatekeeper at Dexinyuan; Zhao Tiezhu and Su Wanqing from the Bureau of Anomalous Affairs; Chu Tianshu, an awakened Han opera performer... One familiar face after another entered his life, and one Eerie after another fell beneath his stage.

And the audience below kept growing.

There was a subway driver consumed by an unshakable obsession, an old man who had been hungry for sixty years in the cafeteria, and opera spirits trapped in the plays at Rongchun Society. They sat in the audience, watched Shen Yan perform, applauded him, and gave him strength.

Until one day, Shen Yan discovered an old man in military uniform sitting in the front row.

“I am descended from Zhao Zilong of Changshan. I have witnessed your battle.”
