Seeking the Way on the Journey West

I am Sun Wukong. After five hundred years of imprisonment, I was freed to escort Tang Sanzang west to obtain the scriptures.

I thought the gods and Buddhas were righteous, and demons were evil. I believed that was the unbreakable law of the world.

Until I saw the bloodbath in Renhe Town.

The ten-thousand-year-old Cangya wielded the Seal of Heaven and Earth, Guardian of the Domain. He wanted no part in conflict and only sought to protect the people.

The town's mortals and demons lived together in peace, keeping to themselves, yet the heavenly soldiers still slaughtered them.

The demons I had beaten to death with my staff, one after another, may have only wanted to protect their homes.

The gods and Buddhas I had worshiped with my dying breath were the true executioners, treating human lives like weeds.

My Daoist heart shattered, and my faith collapsed.

From that day on, I would slay no more demons, and bow to no more Buddhas.

If the true scriptures from the West have no place for the common people, then I want no part of them.

If the gods and Buddhas filling the heavens are false to the core, then they can all be overthrown.

On this journey west,

I will decide for myself, once and for all, what is good and evil in the Three Realms.
