Two male leads + folk-horror mystery + Classic of Mountains and Seas monsters + battles against rules + character growth.
A string of abnormal incidents in Xinhai City all point to an old pawnshop called Guizang Pavilion.
Guizang Pavilion deals only in transactions, asking nothing about good or evil. Customers can trade for whatever they desire, but they must leave an item of equal value in return. Some trade for a chance to be seen, some for a relationship left unfinished, and others try to recover lost memories.
As Cheng Ke of the Special Cases Unit investigates, he discovers that the transactions are tied to strange beasts from the Classic of Mountains and Seas, old debts rooted in folk customs, and an even deeper conspiracy. Guizang Pavilion clearly states its prices, but the real danger comes from another mysterious organization: the Kite Society.
It never tells people the cost. It simply offers them a choice when they are at their most vulnerable.
To stop more people from being drawn into these transactions, Cheng Ke has no choice but to venture again and again into the depths of old accounts, pursuing the truths hidden within the desires of the human heart.
