Lin Haiyin had to give up painting because of color blindness, then moved to Whale-Watching Island to become its only postwoman. She takes on a special assignment: delivering letters with no clear address. A postcard bearing the words “Summer 1975, the girl who took shelter from the rain beneath the lighthouse” leads her to Lu Chaoshen, a deaf photographer recuperating on the island. As they search for the letter’s recipient, the two uncover the joys and sorrows remembered by generations of islanders, and find the frequencies that will help each of them reconnect with the world.
