The Cat Consort’s Tale: A Song-Era Romance Today

On the eve of the Jingkang Incident in the Northern Song Dynasty (1127), an old Taoist priest at the imperial palace, skilled in the art of Qimen Dunjia, sensed that disaster was imminent. To ensure the imperial bloodline would survive, he used forbidden magic to seal the souls of seven imperial cats, each bearing the fortune of the royal family. They would be released automatically a thousand years later, on the day the “Ziwei Star moved,” and reincarnate as modern working women. But the sealing spell was damaged by the Jin army. The soul of one especially precious, deep-red cat was harmed, and it failed to reincarnate as a human as intended. Instead, it wandered through a modern city in feline form, its memories fragmented.
