Jiang Li is a doctoral student in tactics at a military academy, specializing in ancient military history and the evolution of troop types. His advisor once told him he was “born in the wrong era”: if he had lived two thousand years earlier, the things he studied could have changed the course of history.
A library accident transmigrated him to the Canglan Continent.
There are no System prompts, no starter packs, no divine weapons falling from the sky. He wakes up in Anping Village, a poor fishing village at the southernmost tip of the Jing Kingdom. There are 127 starving refugees, enough food for twenty days, seven able-bodied men who can fight, and three hunting bows. Bandits lurk in the Cangwu Mountains to the north, pirates prowl the sea, the barbarian tribes will march south in winter, and tax collectors from neighboring Wan arrive right on schedule every year to seize their grain.
He has been chosen by an ancient text as a “legacy bearer of troop types.” His only core ability is troop-type deduction: combine two basic troop types to create an entirely new hybrid force.
Sword-and-shield soldiers + bandits = woodland swordsmen. Discipline and wildness combined, they move through the mountains like ghosts.
And this is only the beginning.
Personally, I feel that the writing is very good and the characters are well portrayed. The disadvantage is that I discovered this book too early 🤦
