County Party Secretary: In 17 years, he completed an ordinary man's journey to the top.
In 2004, 16-year-old Chen Zhiyuan dropped out of junior high because his family was poor. He went to technical school and got a job at a state-owned enterprise, but unwilling to settle for an ordinary life, he started two businesses. Both failed, leaving him penniless and saddled with 210,000 yuan in loan-shark debt. With nowhere else to turn, he returned to his impoverished mountain village and became the village accountant, earning 800 yuan a month.
From repairing roads to establishing cooperatives, from village director to township civil servant, from deputy mayor to deputy county head, and finally, at 37, becoming the youngest county party secretary in the province: every step was taken in the mud, and at every turn, people tripped him up, laughed at him, and tried to ruin him.
But he never complained and never gave up.
Because he knew that ordinary people don't simply walk their path to success. They get there on their knees, crawling, gritting their teeth, and climbing one step at a time.
Full synopsis (500 words, suitable for a book jacket or platform description):
Chen Zhiyuan was a farm boy born in a poor mountain village in northern China. His father died in a mining accident, his mother was gravely ill, and his younger brother was still in school. At 16, with 2,000 yuan borrowed from someone else in his pocket and a woven sack on his back, he left Liuhe Village and began a long struggle to survive.
He worked as a contract employee at a state-owned enterprise, opened a shoe store, and ran a hot pot restaurant. He started two businesses, lost everything both times, and racked up 210,000 yuan in loan-shark debt. Creditors chased and beat him, his relatives spurned him, and he stood on the bridge in the county seat, thinking of ending it all.
Fate showed him no kindness, only hit him with one blow after another.
But he didn't fall.
At his most desperate, he returned to the village and became its accountant, earning 800 yuan a month.
