Song Shiwei dies in her rental apartment in 2024. Before closing her eyes, she thinks only one thing: If there's a next life, I refuse to be this poor again.

When she opens her eyes again, it's the eve of the Little New Year in 1983.

The roof leaks, her little brother is so hungry he's licking the bottom of the pot, and she has only two yuan and thirty cents in her pocket. Outside, relatives gossip, “One of those siblings is bound to starve to death.”

She doesn't cry. She just picks up a battered tricycle that's about to fall apart.

She starts by selling goods on the street: hair ties, socks, enamel mugs. She gathers up defective items no one else wants and sells them one by one. She makes a net profit of three yuan and eighty cents on the first day, works three different spots on the second, and gets hit with a fee for occupying public space on the third.

In front of the whole street, she gives the fee collector a piece of her mind.

Later, she grows from a street stall to a storefront, from a storefront to a factory, and from the county town to the provincial capital, expanding her business every step of the way. The quiet man who is always reading English books in the repair shop puts all his savings on her table and says only one thing: “Partners. We rise and fall together.”

In this life, she refuses to let fate keep her down.

Starting with two yuan and thirty cents, she's going to turn her whole life around.
