The System told me I’d been bound to the [Joke System]: the jokes and punchlines I tell work on vengeful ghosts.
My first scenario was The Midnight Bell. Sadako crawled out of the television, and my mouth moved faster than my brain:
“Sadako, why are you crawling so slowly? Because you’re ‘Sadako,’ not ‘Speedako.’”
She froze. For a full eight seconds.
After that, a bunch of ghosts joined my audience. Sadako started questioning her life as a ghost after hearing my puns, Jia Ye forgot to kill anyone after being roasted, and Chu Renmei asked me to help rewrite her lyrics.
My teammates thought I was cannon fodder, and the ghosts thought I was prey. Later, they realized that the joke-teller might just be the biggest bug in the horror world.
This is the story of a stand-up comedian telling jokes to ghosts in a world of horror.
Sadako wanted to change careers after hearing my jokes. Jia Ye spoke her first words after hearing them. Chu Renmei changed her song to “Jokes~ are~ so~ good~.”
And I, Jiang Xiaohua, was getting ready for my next show.
My audience: a hundred ghosts.
