Unexpectedly dragged into a strange, endless realm, Lin Shengsheng, an archaeology student, is forced to face instances shaped by the obsessions of emperors throughout history.

In the Qin palace, a murderous presence counts the living every night. In the Han palace, witchcraft and curses creep into your every orifice with each breath.

At the Xuanwu Gate of the Tang palace, the reflection is always your own dead face. In the Song palace, the “murderer” from the candlelit shadows and the sound of an axe is watching you…

From Qin Shi Huang to Puyi, the obsessions of all 103 emperors endure, each enforcing a different set of deadly rules.

Break even one, and you’ll be dragged into the dust of history, lost for all eternity.

Lin Shengsheng only wanted to lay their obsessions to rest and struggle to survive,

but gradually discovered that the madness of every emperor pointed to the same strange source, one that had spanned a thousand years.

More terrifying still, instances from other lands opened at the same time:

In the Roman Colosseum, flesh and blood are sacrificed. The Hall of Mirrors at Versailles reflects the living dead. Prisoners in the Bastille whisper conspiratorially…

Ancient and modern dynasties, supernatural realms from China and abroad, all are traps.

When Lin Shengsheng finally uncovers the nature of the rules, she understands at last:

She isn’t the one clearing the instances. The emperors of every age are waiting for him to arrive.
