Setting: In 2046, an unknown energy known as “Source” sweeps across the globe. Ninety-nine percent of humanity dies in the “Source Tide.” A tiny fraction of the survivors awaken “psychic powers,” while most remain ordinary mortals. Civilization collapses completely, and the world reverts to the law of the jungle, where the strong prey on the weak. Survivors' settlements are called “Nests.” The wilderness is roamed by “abominations” tainted by Source, and even more terrifying “predators.”
Protagonist: Chen Shi
· Background: A death-row inmate before the apocalypse, a born antisocial personality, imprisoned in Deep Well Prison. The Source Tide destroys the prison. He climbs out of the ruins and discovers that the world has become a place better suited to him.
· Core personality: A pure, absolute egoist. He has no concept of good or evil, only what is “useful” and “harmful.” To him, emotions are a useless luxury. He doesn't get angry or sad. He only calculates.
· Motto: “What a hassle.” These are the words he says most often before taking action, and they're the only words he says.
