After transmigrating to the Pokemon world, Su Chenmo just wants to be a quiet researcher.

Then, when he’s seven, the System shows up.

Su Chenmo: “Do you have a beginner’s quest?”

System: “...No. I’m just here to keep you company.”

Fine, then.

Only later does he realize that this System, which is “just here to keep him company,” has led him into a life he never wanted:

Red hands him the Champion’s trophy. “Brother Chenmo, half of this belongs to you.”

After taking more than a decade to emerge from her shadows, Blue finally says, “We’re not a couple, but we’re family.”

During Cynthia’s two years in Hisui, it’s just him and her.

Liko waits from the age of four until she’s twenty-three. On the day they reunite, she wears the white dress from the photo she sent when they first started communicating.

Su Chenmo: “I’m just a researcher. How did I become the mentor of all these Champions?!”

System: “Because you spoiled too much of the story.”

Su Chenmo: “Then what’s going on with these girls?!”

System: “Even Arceus doesn’t interfere with romance.”

In the thirteenth year, the System says, “I’ve been happy to spend these thirteen years by your side.”

Those are its last words.

And Su Chenmo knows that some promises are only just beginning to be fulfilled.
