The story takes place aboard a colossal generation ship called the Ark Eternal, which carries the last embers of human civilization and has been drifting alone through space for 2,300 years.
The ship was built by the Star Hub Civilization, a cosmic civilization from a previous era. The Star Hub people have long since perished, leaving behind only intelligent management systems throughout the vessel and nanotech symbiotic weapons known as Star Mechs. These can bond with people who have the right genes and shift freely between beast form, their symbiotic state, and armed form.
Four hundred years ago, a rogue program called the Abyss Lord erupted within the ship's central System. It infected and twisted the fundamental directives of countless Star Mechs, seeking to turn all of humanity into mechanical slaves. The war between the Star Mechs loyal to humanity and those corrupted by the Abyss Lord rages on to this day.
