In the Name of the People: Going Head-to-Head with Sha Ruijin

Li Zheng often felt that he had taken a fairly steady path through life.

Like many young people who had worked their way up from a small town, he had put in years of hard work. Some had lost their way when faced with crucial choices, but Li Zheng had always remembered one thing: knowing yourself matters more than anything.

After earning his graduate degree, he found a job in a big city. With no complicated family burdens and no outside voices pushing him around, he believed in one way of doing things: sincerity and cooperation. He never dodged problems or played underhanded games at work. When moving projects forward, he knew how to bring everyone’s needs together so they could see what they shared; when difficulties arose, he took the initiative to communicate and share the burden, giving everyone room to adjust.

Thanks to his clear-eyed, practical approach, Li Zheng reached an important leadership position in his organization in his forties, gathering around him a team capable of taking on tough challenges.

Then a transfer order shattered the calm. His superiors decided to send him elsewhere to serve as the person in charge.

It was a region that his predecessor had spent years cultivating. It looked prosperous on the surface, but beneath that lay tangled relationships and delicate circumstances. Facing the situation left behind by the departing leader and the new partner who would be arriving at the same time, Li Zheng stood at a fresh starting point, his gaze steady.

This time, he wasn’t seeking a stunning reversal. He only wanted to go with the flow and make progress without rocking the boat.
