[Two male leads, one-on-one romance + a story within a story + angst first, sweetness later + unconventional tropes]
(A short story I've wanted to write for a long time.)
“This sword severs the past. We need never meet again on the road to the underworld.”
On a snowy night at the cliff's edge, the general drove his sword into the strategist's heart with his own hands. Smiling, the strategist fell from the cliff, his red robes stained with blood.
The entire internet broke down in tears, calling it the pinnacle of tragic romance.
But the very next moment, the scene abruptly cut off.
The studio lights blazed on. The strategist, who had supposedly “fallen to his death,” suddenly threw himself into the general's arms, trembling as he cried, “I'm done acting! I won't let you die! The script is canceled!”
The general tossed aside the prop sword and pulled him close, smiling with helpless affection. “There, there. It's all pretend.”
The crew watching from the sidelines: ??? So you two aren't filming an angst scene, you're using public funds to date?!
After three years away from the spotlight, the married actor couple wrote and performed a heartbreaking romance of their own to make their fans happy. Shen Qingwu, the screenwriter and star, wrote himself into the script and put himself through every kind of misery. But he got too deep into character and broke down crying on set.
His co-star and husband, Lu Chen, gently comforted him while secretly recording the whole thing, including the screenwriter crying and calling “Cut,” then broadcast it to the entire internet.
Fans: You wrote the angst, you acted it out, and you're the one crying. The stars themselves serve up both heartbreak and sweetness. How is anyone supposed to handle that?!
