Lin Du has transmigrated.
He’s landed in an unfinished mystery novel, as a passerby who’s the first to get killed off.
The good news: he knows the story inside out and knows where all the deadly traps are.
The bad news: the script is wrong. The person who was supposed to go missing disappears early, the people who were supposed to die are alive and well, and he himself has become a “variable” who doesn’t exist in the story.
Even worse, he’s caught the attention of Shen Yan, the most untouchable person in the whole school.
He barely speaks and has an intimidating presence. Nobody dares cross him, yet in front of everyone, he says to Lin Du, “Stay by my side.”
Lin Du thinks it’s a threat.
Only later does he realize Shen Yan isn’t protecting him. He’s using him as bait.
The campus ghost stories continue: people keep disappearing from Room 208 in Building 2, you must never look back in the hallway after evening study, the library’s underground restricted area holds secrets that no living person is allowed to know, and someone dies in an “accident” every month on the fifteenth.
Lin Du relies on his foreknowledge of the plot to stay alive, while Shen Yan uses his innate abilities to break through each crisis.
From testing each other to being forced to work together, from clashing at every turn to
“Why did you save me?”
“If you die, who’ll be my bait?”
Liar.
Looking into those pale eyes, Lin Du thinks: You’re the one person who wants me alive more than anyone.
