At sixteen, Lin Que awakens the legendary “wordless spirit mark,” the Devouring Spirit Mark, and is swept into a vortex of destiny spanning three thousand years.
This spirit mark is both the vessel for the primordial ferocious beast, the Lord of Devouring, and the only key capable of sealing it. In the Ice Palace’s ancient frozen abyss, Lin Que fights the Lord of Devouring’s will to the death, only to discover that his father, Lin Yuanshan, is still alive. He sacrificed himself to seal the Lord of Devouring’s remnant soul inside his son.
When the Lord of Devouring breaks free and the three great sects close in, Lin Que fuses the Lord of Devouring with the Heaven-Sealing Seal through sheer, astonishing will, creating a new power called Origin Return. He becomes the mortal incarnation of the source of all things, the Guixu: the Lord of Guixu.
He ventures deep into Guixu, rescues his father’s soul, and restores his body, only to learn that his mother is also trapped in its depths. Faced with the fervent Guixu Cult, whose followers worship him, Lin Que must break through the third level of the Guixu Art within a year and open the gates of Guixu once more.
