In the first year of Zhengguang of the Northern Wei Dynasty (520), there were many temples inside and outside Luoyang City, and the pagodas were towering, making the area prosperous. Cui Haozhi, a descendant of the Cui family in Qinghe, Wang Yuanziyou of Changle, Gao Huan, a poor boy from Huaishuo town, and Zheng Yinniang, a girl from the Zheng family in Xingyang, the fates of the four are intertwined at this turning point in history.
Cui Haozhi and Yuan Ziyou met for the first time at Baima Temple and fell in love at first sight; Gao Huan married Lou Zhaojun in Huaishuo Town and began to rise to prominence; Zheng Yinniang was dissatisfied with her daughter's body and had a secret affair with her cousin Cui Haozhi. From the ignition of the beacon fire of the Six Towns Uprising, to the blood-stained Yellow River in the Heyin Incident, from Emperor Xiaozhuang's desperate move to kill the powerful minister Er Zhurong, to the confrontation between Gao Huan and Yuwen Tai, and the split of the Northern Wei Dynasty into the Eastern and Western Wei Dynasties, they struggled, plotted, and made choices in troubled times, and ultimately each headed for a different destiny.
Cui Haozhi made a painful choice between protecting his clan and being loyal to his emperor. Yuan Ziyou was unwilling to be a puppet and rose up to resist but his country was destroyed. Gao Huan rose from the bottom to become a generational hero. Zheng Yin disguised herself as a man and achieved a career in troubled times.
