[Zhouyi Hexagram Demons + Officialdom + Harem + Wits and Strategy + Fated Bonds + Ensemble Cast + Fantasy + Serious Drama]
“Other people take civil service exams to govern a town. I passed the exam, so why do I have to face off against Zhouyi hexagram demons that have become sentient every single day?”
A thousand years ago, the origins of all sixty-four hexagrams of the Zhouyi underwent a complete reversal. Obsessions gave shape to demons, bringing chaos to the human world.
Hexagram demons feed on the cracks in people’s lives and use the power of reversed change to bring about calamities. Behind every bizarre murder case lurks a hexagram demon trapped by its obsession for ten thousand years, along with a blood-soaked past.
The Shi Hexagram has wielded its weapons for a thousand years, all for the sake of a loyal martyr’s oath to clear his name. The siblings Tai and Pi turned against each other, trapped for millennia in their obsessions with peace and isolation. The Kui Hexagram has shattered countless hearts, yet all it can do is remain stuck on that snowy night in its youth when its dearest friend betrayed it.
In Shechuan Province of the New Kingdom, grassroots official Xie Guanyao awakens a gift for innate changing hexagrams at the brink of death. He becomes the only person in a thousand years capable of discerning the death lines of hexagram demons and purifying the source of reversed change.
From exposing collusion between officials and businessmen in the collapse of a bridge over the river, to confronting the thousand-year-old war demon lord of the Shi Hexagram in a string of murders in southern Hunan, to defeating the twin demons Tai and Pi in the peaceful illusion of Kongwang City, and battling the heart-splitting force of the Kui and Li Hexagrams in northern Hunan City.
He does not rely on brute force to slay demons, but guides their hearts through empathy. He uncovers hexagram schemes through logic, and uses the righteous way of change to awaken people’s hearts.
Step by step, he uncovers the secrets behind the demons’ creation ten thousand years ago and the truth behind the reversal a thousand years ago. He also draws closer to Su Weiewan, the cool, reserved woman at his side, and the ultimate secret she conceals, one powerful enough to overturn a game that has lasted ten thousand years.
The path of mastering change is long and arduous.
The endgame of the sixty-four hexagrams is near, and a new variable has entered the ten-thousand-year game.
