At midnight, a voice appeared in my mind.
It called itself the Corruption Protocol, claimed to be a System, and issued me a mission: hang a coat once worn by a dead person in my apartment building's hallway, so that four people would see the "shadow."
I thought it was just a bizarre game.
That was until I saw the thing wearing the coat at the end of the hallway. Its shoulders were too broad, its neck too long, and beneath its clothes there was no body, only a void darker than darkness.
When it came within a meter of me, I learned three things:
First, the supernatural was real.
Second, I was personally luring it into the human world.
Third, the System wasn't helping me grow stronger. It was turning me into a wedge to smash the wall between reality and the void.
But I couldn't stop anymore.
