"Black Wukong: Breaking the World" subverts the classic setting of Journey to the West, using the real and fake Monkey King as a turning point to reveal the shocking lies about the rule of gods and Buddhas. At the beginning of chaos, Pangu opened the sky and transformed into heaven and earth, leaving behind the obsession that "all living beings are equal". His spine turned into a golden hoop, guarded by his senior brother Bodhi who lived in seclusion in Fangcun Mountain.
After taking over the world, Hongjun established a hierarchical order, divided the living beings into five classes, used the power of incense and vows to harvest the thoughts of living beings to offer to gods and Buddhas, and squeezed the origin of Pangu's remains. Sun Wukong was originally transformed from Pangu's heart. Because of Pangu's obsession, he was killed by Tathagata during the time of the real and false Monkey King, and was replaced by the six-eared macaque.
The golden cudgel broke into 13,500 pieces to protect the obsession. The heart of the cudgel was hidden under the Tathagata's seat and waited for the opportunity. Bodhi exhausted all his life and waited, and finally used the guiding light to gather the fragments, allowing Wukong to be reborn with obsession as his soul and his golden cudgel as his bones.
After going through seven tests, Wukong regained his own power, learned the seventy-third transformation, and became obsession itself. Along the way, he destroyed Lingshan Mountain, shattered the Heavenly Court, and retreated from the Three Pure Ones. Finally, he faced Hongjun and shattered the hierarchical order with Pangu's obsession to open up the sky. He allowed the gods and Buddhas to lose their aura, and all living beings in the three realms returned to their true state of equality.
The story takes "all living beings are equal" as the core and reconstructs the world view of Journey to the West. It tells the story of Wukong not for revenge, but to regain the stolen world for all living beings.
