A Meeting at Summer's End, Autumn's Beginning

In September of their first year of high school, Ye Liangchen met Zhu Yinzhi beneath a plane tree at Chang'an High School. She was crouching down to pick up her scattered books. Her hair clip had fallen out, and when she looked up, the sunlight caught in her eyes.

They became deskmates. They studied together in the library, exchanged gifts on Christmas Eve, went boating in Xingqing Park, and shared a pair of earphones on the bus on a snowy night. Li Nan and Wu Huiying joined in with their bickering and laughter, and the four of them made their sixteenth and seventeenth years shine like plane-tree leaves.

But plane-tree leaves always fall.

Choosing between arts and sciences, college applications, the distance between north and south: the things they thought they could overcome when they were young eventually became insurmountable.

This is a story about meeting, keeping each other company, and eventually parting ways. No melodrama, no misunderstandings, just two people who truly loved each other and a youth they could never hold on to.

"May you find happiness in this world."

"I only wish to face the sea, with spring flowers blossoming."
